Lee Rangers Under 11B

Welcome to the U11B Team. We have 16 lads and 1 girl in the squad and most of us have been playing together for over 3 years. Our goal is GOALS! But also to enjoy playing the game and improve by building our knowledge and skill with every match and training session.

Steve Thompson is our Coach and Assistant Manager, Alan Bailey acts as Assistant Coach and the team is managed by Angela Lewis.  We train during the Winter Months on Mondays 6.30pm - 7.30pm at Crofton School and during the Summer months on Mondays 6pm - 7.30pm either at Lee Rec or Bridgemary Community School.

Training Nights

Reminder to all those who play in the U11B Team Training is on Monday 6.30pm til 7.30pm at Crofton Secondary School in the Sports Hall after the Easter Holidays we are allowed to train on their sports field at the back of the Sports Hall.

Also Thursday evenings 6pm til 7pm Steve Thompson U11B Assistant Manager and Coach is also offering training sessions at the Lee on Solent Recreation Ground for all U11B players if they are free.

Please remember shin pads must be worn at all training sessions and matches (you will not be allowed to play if you are not wearing protective shin guards).  Don't forget appropriate trainers or boots and of course warm clothing and water bottles.

15/3/08 Lee Rangers U11B 2 - 6 Solent Youth

Lee Rangers U11B v Solent Youth Starting line up: George, Jack K, Sean, Alex, Sam T, Callum P, Jim, Sam C, Dan, Jack H and Taidgh, with Olly and Callum B as subs.

Another near perfect day for football, cool, overcast and soft underfoot. We won the toss! Continuing on from our last meeting with Solent Youth we managed to hold our own against them for prolonged periods as demonstrated in the second half of our last meeting. End to end football with lots of basic errors on both sides created an exciting atmosphere as play continuously changed direction. Again Lee went behind 0-1 from a scrappy move, unable to clear their lines. Fortunately we were able to respond and get a goal. This came from the back, starting with George, route alpha, over the top and down the middle with Taidgh hot footing it with the aid of a slight tail wind. He broke through the defence on to the approaching Keeper, however was able to remain calm and lift it over and comfortably get the equaliser, 1-1. A great cheer from the Loyal Supporters! Unfortunately the excited was soon subdued as they continued to mount an attacking response, but resolute defending and some good goalkeeping was able to keep them at bay for a while, until they got another scrappy goal, 1-2. Not to be dishearted Lee continued to mount a stubborn resistance, occasionally getting forward but unable to convert a few half chances. But, against the run of play another long clearance from George was pushed wide to the right and then played back into Jack H who was able to calmly look up, push forward again and que himself for a long range shot, which was painfully blocked by a packed defence only to be shot back in couple of more time before Sam C was able to get it into the net, 2-2 and so it remained until half time. The half time talk was a pretty upbeat, given that the boys were on a high and had never been in this position. Keep the discipline, make sure you man mark, don't ball watch, back track to help and try and be first to the ball. The boys were excited! And rightly so, unfortunately the sound of the Solent coach 'verbally abusing' his team seemed to have the desired effect, as they came out fighting and Lee completely forgot all that had been done in the first half!

The second half remained quite an open game, with end to end play with Solent able to defend well against any half chances Lee had. Solent continued to press forward and similarly some resolute defending and continued good goalkeeping at Lee end was able to keep the goal tally down. The Loss of Olly to injury saw the Lee resistance crumble, 3,4,5,6, again most of them scrappy. Final Score 2-6, but a much improved performance and a glimmer of hope as the boys enjoyed another narrower defeat. Well done, especially George who was unbootable this weeks Man of the Match.

1/3/08 Solent Youth 14 - 2 Lee Rangers U11B

Another week with only 11 players! George, Jack J, Sam T, Adam, Alex, Sean, Callum B, Callum P, Jim, Taidgh, Tom, and Laura in the second half (after music festival and guitar solo).

This really was a game of 2 halves!  The first half we were forced to defend against a strong wind, which Solent fully exploited with their knowledge of local conditions. A slow start from Lee saw the Solent take a quick start, another 'up and under' not cleared with the ball ending up in the back of the net followed quickly by a few more, Lee's heads dropped! The first opportunity for Lee to attack saw a good move down the left, resulting in a cross which Callum P picked up on the edge of the box as the keeper committed himself and a speculative shot was launched over the keeper, which given the strength of the wind, was still powerful enough to creep over the line and into the back of the net. Lee's heads were back in the air and a concerted effort resulted in some further promising football, unfortunately this was not maintained and another loss of concentration and discipline resulted in further goals. 12-1 at half time!

Second half and some 'do or die' tactical changes. Laura arrived at half time which enabled a bit of rotation and some to have a rest. A 3/1/4/2 formation game Lee a bit more of an attacking edge to take advantage of the wind, which had seemed to die down when we needed it most. This half saw more commitment from the Lee players who showed a bit more 'fire' and belief as the pressed the tiring Solent lads. The goal of the game from Sean Pitt after a great through ball found Jim who was able to chase and keep the ball in as it raced to the dead ball line. Jim pulled the ball back into the box and the oncoming Sean was able to pick his spot with a well finished goal. An improved performance by all players in the second half was evident in the 2-1 score line, which finished 14-2.

Another difficult decision for Man of the match, Sean giving another sterling Captains performance, however Callum P who got a first half goal, against the run of play, and maintained a steady performance, just took the award. Well done Callum P, well done everyone who where able to get there. Thank You.

8/3/08 AFC Dynamos 6 - 1 Lee Rangers U11B

Another perfect day for football.

This weeks line-up: George, Laura, Alex, Adam, Sam T, Jack H, Jim, Sam C, Callum B, Callum P, Taidgh, with Jack and Dan starting as subs. Yet again a slow start for Lee, Dynamo getting early possession and allowed to run at the defence leaving George little chance of saving. Not to be disheartened Lee rallied round and under the guidance of Adam, this weeks Captain, put in a sound first half and going into the break only 2-0 down. The first half was a vast improvement on previous games with the team generally performing well and maintaining their positions as well as getting into goal scoring positions.

The second half saw the introduction of Jack J and Dan who slipped comfortable into their positions and Lee continue on the sound footing of the first half.  Some good support play and continued effort pushed Dynamo into numerous defensive plays, none more so than the Lee Goal. he goal came from George's clearance from the goal, through the middle up to Jim who ran at the Dynamo defence, who backed off and allowed him to run at them.passing the last defender, Jim cooly picked his spot and slotted home from an acute angle from the edge of the box. GOALLLLLLLLLLLLL! 2-1, a glimmer of hope! A well taken goal, given that, for me their best performing player were the two central defenders and a big, strong keeper. Unfortunately the slimming of the gap was not maintained for long with Dynamo getting a third. o lee's credit they maintained their enthusiasm and effort but were unable to stop further goals and a final result;

Well done everyone, especially Jim who was awarded Man of the Match for his resilient midfield performance and well executed goal. Although, Alex came close to getting my vote as another improved performance. This was a greatly improved performance and stands us in good stead for Solent Youth next week. So hopefully this performance and last weeks second half performance is a good footing on which to approach the fixture.
