Update so far
I would be lying if I said that all is going well in the team, as since my last report we have had some tricky games and suffered some poor and disappointing results. However I have decided that the season starts now and tomorrow we have a game at home against Portchester and we have just had our first training session at HMS Sultan, which I have to say was well received and hopefully will help us to improve. I am forever hearing rumours that the team will fold, I would like to say that we are a football team that yes, is not doing the best, however we are a team and will remain so for some time yet I am sure. This would of course be greatly helped by an influx of players and I would ask that if anyone reading knows of a girl or boy in this age group that would like to join a football team whose spirit and friendliness is available in abundance then please pass my details on to them.
We are a side that pride ourselves in fair play and I as the manager will do my best to ensure that players; most of all, enjoy the game/keep fit and learn the art of being a member of a team. This is my ethos now and will remain my ethos for the future.
I would like to thank all the team and their parents for the support they all give and lets see what the rest of the season brings us, the first win is around the corner I am sure.
It was a lovely sunny morning at Waltham Chase on Saturday and we had all 11 players attend the match. In the first 10 minutes of the game we held our own, only conceding 1 goal, unfortunately after that things went a bit ‘pear shaped’ as some school boy errors led to goal after goal being conceded. Waltham have one particular player that was proving more and more troublesome, as he was the same size as our manager and could throw, kick, tackle to the standard of a lad far older and our defenders frankly didn’t stand a chance. Never the less we did continue to battle through, however the final score of 12 – 0 was a fair reflection of the day. I awarded the man of the match to Bailey – who was constantly in the thick of things and well deserved this praise. We must now train in the rules of football, particularly the offside rule and resolve some of the more basic elements of playing football. We start training this week at HMS Sultan and it is from here we must start to get the basics right and also our fitness needs some work. It goes without saying that what we require is more players, that way we can allow players to have a rest during the matches. This weekend we have a cup game against a Petersfield team at home. Come on you blues.
Well we are of and running for the new season of 11 a'side football, which with only 11 players currently in the team has already proved to be a challenging time for the lads in the team. Our first game was the long haul upto Grayshot where we were convincing beaton 10 - 0, although having not carried out a single training session and this being the first run out in 11 aside football for the team, was not a surprising result. Watch out for Grayshot, they are a good side. Then our last game was an hampshire Cup game against AFC Portchester, which began with a goal: from us! Scorer was young Domonic Bridge, who also got the man of the match for the game. My surprise at this openning goal was that due to the fact we only had 9 players turn up for this game I would never of dreamt that we would open the scoring, which I am sure will put us in good standing for when all players (plus more hopefully) turn up then I really do believe that we can give a good account for ourselves. We lost 12 - 1 in the end, but I don't care - fair play to the players, it was a tough game. We now go on to play at Waltham Wolves this coming weekend. Come on you Blues.
